Gel nails, explained

Overlay, extensions, infill — and where the money actually goes.

There are three different things people mean by “gel nails”, and they are priced differently at Frada Beauty Center in San Pedro del Pinatar. A gel manicure is gel applied over your own nail. Gel extensions add length, and what you pay depends on how much length you add. An infill is the appointment that rebalances a set you already wear as the nail grows out, and it is a single price no matter which length you chose — which is why, on medium and long sets, an infill costs less than starting again.

The three things people mean

A manicure with no gel is shaping and care for the nail you have. A gel manicure is that plus colour in gel, cured, on your own nail — no length added.

Gel extensions build length onto the nail, and the salon prices them in three steps: short, medium, and long or XL. The step is the length, and it is the only thing that moves the price.

An infill is not a fourth kind of nail. It is the appointment you book for a set you are already wearing, to rebalance it as the natural nail grows out underneath.

Where the money actually goes

Read the table across. A gel manicure costs the same every time you book it, because there is nothing to grow out from — next time is simply another gel manicure.

Extensions behave differently. The first set is priced by length, but the infill is one price for all three lengths. On a short set that means upkeep costs the same as a fresh set. On medium, and more so on long or XL, the infill is the cheaper appointment — so the longer the set you wear, the more the upkeep route saves against starting over.

Removal is priced separately and is the shortest appointment on the list, which is worth knowing before you assume taking a set off is a favour rather than a booking.

The appointment lengths are not what you would guess

The infill is the longest nail appointment the salon lists — longer than any of the three full sets. That is the opposite of most people’s assumption, and it is worth knowing when you are choosing a slot rather than a treatment.

Common questions

What is the difference between a gel manicure and gel extensions?

A gel manicure is gel colour on your own nail with no length added. Gel extensions build length onto the nail, and the salon prices them in three steps — short, medium, and long or XL. The table above gives the current price for each.

Is an infill cheaper than a new set?

It depends on the length you wear. The infill is a single price whichever length you have, while a new full set is priced by length — so on a short set the two cost the same, and on medium or long the infill is the cheaper appointment. The table shows both.

How often do I need an infill?

That depends on how fast your nails grow and on how the set wears, so it is a question for the salon rather than for this page. Frada prices the infill as its own appointment, so you book it when you need it.

Do you charge to take them off?

Removal is listed and priced on the site like any other treatment, and it is the shortest nail appointment the salon books. The current price is in the table above.
